Titania at Grays Court

After driving through heavy mist and light drizzle, the day turned out to be a scorcher ~ nice for strolling around York or seeing the sights from the castle walls, but not so nice for nearly 9 hours of heavy mallet work!

I started off quite gently, carving the flowers on Titania’s head-dress.

I did some subtle changes on the face too, probably nothing anyone would be able to detect, but I’m a bit happier with her.

After the head-dress and hair, I had a lot of wood to remove for the wings.

I’ll put butterfly-like patterns on the wings later.

I took some of the size off Titania’s bottom, resisting the temptation to leave it on the large side ~ with the ass head too it could have made this the carving with two big bottoms! And if you don’t know Midsummer Night’s Dream, that won’t make any sense to you.

I then shaped the forearm nearest us, cutting into the tree quite a lot to make it straight. I took some photos of the space at the end of the arm to help me draw the hand.

So hopefully tomorrow (weather permitting) I’ll get the hand set in and the patterns on the wings. Perhaps do some shaping on Bottom’s head.
