Two Little Dickie Birds

Back to the first tree trunk today, and a pair of swallows underneath the drummer; the birds will be holding ribbons or streamers that twist together and form a running double-helix pattern around the musician.

To go with the more stylized theme of the carving, I thought the swallows would work using the traditional tattoo design favoured by sailors the world over.

I carved the swallows, leaving space for the trailing ribbons / streamers.

From the beaks, the ribbon works its way up the right hand side.

Starting loosely, the pattern will become a symmetrical double helix. I was pleased to get as much as this done today, I had hoped to complete the birds , so to get a start on the double helix trail was a bonus ~ it would be great to get that done tomorrow.
