Work at Moorlands Comes to a Close

A busy day on Sunday; after finishing the triple wildlife tree a few days previously I had started on the back of the Douglas Fir, so after a couple of hours carving on the Sunday morning I had completed everything, but had to fit in three coats of Danish Oil. I use some brilliant quick-drying oil from Rustin’s, with a 2-3 hour drying time it’s perfect for me when working on site, as it saves me traveling back and forth for days after to merely brush on another coat.

This was how the Douglas Fir was left before returning on the Sunday; it really is horrible to carve. The difficulties with the wood dictated the style of lettering, as it had done on the other side (“Mighty Oaks From Little Acorns Grow”).

Finishing touches on Sunday.

All oiled for the last time, and a fond farewell to Moorlands, a lovely place to work.
